🥩🥓Broken Bow FFA competed in its first Meat Quality Evaluation Contest at the Battle Line Rivalry in Fort Smith, AR yesterday. Team members competing were Laney Hamlin, Charity Elliot, Jase Cunningham, Cameron Cooke, Kris McCune, Blake Whitfield and Andrew Hannah. They were accompanied by Mr. Sharp. The Meat Quality Evaluation Contest is an important event that focuses on assessing meat quality, including factors such as marbling, color, and texture. Participants typically gain valuable experience in evaluating various meat cuts, understanding grading standards, and learning about industry practices.

From mixing and rolling out buttery, flaky biscuits to whipping up a rich, savory sausage gravy from scratch, these students put their skills to the test and nailed it! Not only did they get to enjoy a delicious homemade meal, but they also learned valuable life skills that will serve them well beyond the classroom. Cooking from scratch isn’t just about great food—it’s about confidence, creativity, and independence in the kitchen. Each student made their own predictions then watched the video of Punxsutawney Phil. By the way, Phil did see his shadow. Six more weeks of winter!
