Can you spell “A Cool Kid?”
Jordan Mckinney represented #RJMS at the Scripps National Spelling Bee Regional Competition in Oklahoma City this past weekend.
First, Jordan competed with other students from 6th, 7th, and 8th grade for the "School" round of the Bee. Mr. Boothe said "I don't recall how many rounds this portion endured, but after over an hour of taking turns spelling words, Jordan came out on top!"
Next, he relentlessly practiced his spelling word list with anybody who would listen, mostly Mr. Bothe and Mrs. Nalley. This was to prepare for the "Qualifying Exam," which was an online test. "I believe he only missed two words on this section and that solidified his spot in the next round." Bothe said.
On Saturday, Jordan competed in the "Regional" round (the next step is the National Bee in D.C.).
Jordan fought his way through, against tough competition, all the way to the 4th round. Unfortunately, it was the word "adolescence" that tripped him up.
Mr. Bothe said "However, and I find this truly admirable, Jordan demonstrated an unwavering positive attitude. Even in defeat, he congratulated his fellow spellers and spoke about himself with immense confidence."
