🔸🥁Broken Bow High School is on a promising path toward establishing its own Choctaw Drum Corps!
Currently, two students are training with drummers from the Choctaw Nation and have acquired traditional drums crafted by a skilled drum maker from Mississippi.
The drum represents the heartbeat of the Choctaw people, with the unique sound often signaling the beginning of significant events within tribal culture.
Broken Bow Schools is committed to preserving this cultural heritage alongside our focus on academic achievement, life skills, and athletic development.

THE ROAD TO THE PLAYOFFS HEATS UP! 🔥
The Broken Bow varsity basketball teams are charging into February with a packed schedule of competitive matchups as the Class 4A playoffs approach! The OSSAA will release the Class 4A playoff pairings on February 6th, with district play set for the weekend of February 21st.
Both Broken Bow teams are positioning themselves for a strong postseason run. Currently, the Lady Savages (17-1) are ranked #2 in the Class 4A girls rankings, while the Savages (12-5) are ranked #15 on the boys side. Class 4A is one of Oklahoma's most competitive classifications and both teams will face tough regional opponents as they build momentum toward the state tournament. The teams should be battle-tested by the time those playoffs arrive, with a tough slate of seven games ahead on the schedule over the next fourteen days. The competition begins tonight in Idabel for a full slate of junior varsity and varsity action. Tip-off is set for 4:00 PM.
The Lady Savages will be thoroughly tested this weekend when they face the Class 2A #2 Howe Lady Lions on Friday in Broken Bow, then travel to Washington on Monday to face the Class 3A #1 Washington Lady Warriors. The Savages also face off against Howe Friday night, and then play Class 4A #4 North Rock Creek on Monday in Washington. Both Broken Bow teams had previously advanced to the championship round of the Rocky Clarke Invitational Tournament in Washington but the ice storm delayed the completion of the tournament. Monday's games are the rescheduled RCIT Championship games. The teams then return to the Sports Complex in Broken Bow on Tuesday for varsity showdowns against Rattan and will finish off the regular season with three tough road games:
FEB 12 - @ Valliant (4:00/6:30 PM) - JV/Varsity
FEB 13 - @ Pocola (5:00 PM) – Varsity
FEB 17 - @ Ada (4:00/6:00 PM) - JV/Varsity

🌟 SHINE On Staff Spotlight 🌟
Mrs. Mikyla Barnett
School Counselor
💙 Celebrating School Counselor Week 💙
This week, as we celebrate School Counselor Week, we are especially excited to shine the spotlight on Mrs. Mikyla Barnett, whose heart for students and dedication to our school make a lasting impact every day.
With 6 years in education, Mrs. Barnett is in her fifth year with Broken Bow Public Schools and her second year at Bennett Elementary. After coming from the high school setting, she has embraced the elementary world and truly enjoys being surrounded by the energy, excitement, and growth of our students. Her passion for building relationships and supporting the whole child is evident in everything she does.
Mrs. Barnett loves working alongside an amazing and supportive staff, and she plays a vital role in helping create a school environment where students feel safe, encouraged, and ready to learn. Whether she’s offering guidance, lending a listening ear, or celebrating student successes, her presence makes Bennett a better place.
She lives by the words:
“Don’t let the hard days win.” — Sarah J. Maas
“Attitude is a little thing that makes a big difference.” — Winston Churchill
When she’s not busy supporting students, Mrs. Barnett enjoys a Pepsi and peanut butter M&M’s, grabbing a bite at Mi Ranchito, and planning her next adventure—she loves to travel!
During School Counselor Week, and every week, we are so thankful for Mrs. Barnett and the difference she makes in the lives of our students. Thank you for being a steady support, a positive influence, and a true example of what it means to SHINE at Bennett Elementary! ✨
