I have always loved the beginning of a new school year. There’s something special about meeting new teachers, opening fresh school supplies, reuniting with friends, and feeling that buzz of anticipation for all the possibilities ahead.
I am so thankful for the families and students who choose to be part of Broken Bow Public Schools and represent our district with pride. And, I am deeply grateful for the tremendous staff I get to work with each and every day. We are a collective team—teachers, support staff, administrators—working together to achieve so much more than any of us can accomplish alone.
Education in any capacity is a calling. At its heart, it is about caring for every student who walks through our doors and serving as a support system for them. It is about equipping them with the skills, knowledge, and character they will need to be successful adults.
My own passion for education was shaped by watching my mom teach her entire career. She had an extraordinary gift for bringing out the best in students, even those who others struggled to reach. They knew they were loved. To this day, I never meet a former student of hers who doesn’t say, “Mrs. Horton was the best teacher I ever had.”
I also think often of my own 3rd grade teacher, Sharon Wood. She entered our classroom smiling every day, taught us to stop and pray whenever an emergency vehicle passed by, had a contagious laugh, and loved every student equally. I don’t remember her so much for her reading or math lessons, though I’m sure she taught them well. What I remember most is how she made us feel valued and loved—sometimes as much or more than we felt at home.
That is the kind of difference we strive to make here at Broken Bow Public Schools. As we begin the 2025–26 school year, I am excited for what our students will accomplish. The potential is off the charts. I anticipate many celebrations, victories, and milestones along the way, and I look forward to sharing in those moments with all of you.
Here’s to a year filled with growth, learning, and the joy of knowing that together, we are shaping the future.
Welcome back, Savage Family!
