Each year, Choctaw Electric Cooperative sends three area high school juniors to visit Washington D.C. at no charge to the student. This program, called Youth Tour, is sponsored by electric cooperatives all over the nation. Youth Tour was created to allow students the opportunity to visit our nation’s capital and see firsthand how our government works.
Last year, Youth Tour participants were able to visit National Monuments and Memorials, Smithsonian Museums, Mount Vernon, Arlington Cemetery, Ford Theater, Holocaust Museum and many other points of interest as well as getting to meet with Oklahoma’s representatives and senators. As in years past, Choctaw Electric pays for all lodging, transportation and meals for the students selected for Youth Tour.
I’m excited to announce that the selection process for Youth Tour 2020 is currently underway. We are asking that any interested junior submit a 3 to 5 minute speech on anything the applicant finds inspiring and passionate about sharing. Videos and slide presentations will be accepted. If submitting a slide presentation, such as Prezi or PowerPoint, applicants may send a recording of their voice or smart phone video of the slide presentation. Presentations must include an abstract giving a brief description of the topic and citing at least two sources. Entry deadline is Saturday, February 15, 2020 at midnight and emailed to: email@example.com. After the presentations are judged, we will select finalists to be interviewed. Winners will be selected based on their speech and interview. Youth Tour 2020 will be held June 19-25, 2020.
Please feel free to contact me with any questions you might have about the Youth Tour program. I can be reached at 800-780-6486, ext. 241 or firstname.lastname@example.org. Thank you for supporting the Youth Tour program. I look forward to speaking with you.
