*The OU Club of McCurtain County Scholarship Application is now available from Coach Reed’s shelf. This is for students who plan to attend OU. The application must be RECEIVED by them by April 20th.
*The Hayes Chiropractic Scholarship Application is now available from Coach Reed’s shelf. These must be delivered to the Hayes Chiropractic office by April 17th.
*The Minister’s Fellowship Scholarship Application is now available from Coach Reed’s shelf. You must be in the top 35% of your class and provide an endorsement from your youth pastor or minister. It is due to Mrs. Bible by April 25th.
*If you plan to take college classes this summer and need financial aid, you need to contact the college’s financial aid department ASAP to complete the paperwork. Oklahoma’s Promise can’t be used during the summer following your senior year.
*If you plan to take college classes at SOSU Idabel, you will not need concurrent paperwork from Mrs. Bible. Just take a copy of your transcript to get enrolled.
*In order to initiate your Oklahoma’s Promise, you simply need to notify the financial aid office of the college you plan to attend. We will automatically send Oklahoma’s Promise a copy of your transcript after you graduate. They will check your transcript and notify you over the summer to verify that you have met the requirements.
*The Alpha Iota Scholarship Application is now available from Coach Reed’s shelf. Applications must be turned in to Mrs. Bible by April 13th.
*The Jason C. Wagner Scholarship Application is now available at www.jasoncwagnerfoundation.org (then select “Apply For Scholarship” on the menu bar. Applications must be received by May 1st.
*Haskell Indian Nations University will be having a visitation day on Friday, April 20th. Please RSVP at 785-479-8437.
*OSU will be having a Sports Media Summer Camp June 20-23. The cost is $625. You can find more information at http://media.okstate.edu or see Mrs. Bible for an application.
*For students with a CDIB: The Holland & Knight Charitable Foundation is proud to welcome entries for the Young Native Writers Essay Contest, which we organize each year in partnership with the Smithsonian Institution’s National Museum of the American Indian.
This essay contest for Native American high school students is designed to encourage young Native Americans to think about the most important issues affecting their tribal communities, as well as ways in which challenges can be addressed. Hundreds of Native American high school students participate each year. While all participants receive a Certificate of Honor for submitting their essays and adding their voices to this important dialogue in Indian Country, the five first-place winners are awarded an all-expenses-paid “Scholar Week” trip to Washington, D.C., accompanied by a teacher or mentor nominated by each winner, to visit the National Museum of the American Indian and other prominent Washington, D.C. sites. Each winner also receives a $2,500 college scholarship.
Please help us spread the word about this year’s contest by forwarding this email to groups and individuals who might be interested in submitting an essay. Reminders:
*Everyone mark your calendars for May 11th. There will be an awards assembly for all seniors at 9:00am.
*The Baccalaureate (sponsored by the Ministers’ Fellowship) will be on May 16th at 7:00pm in the auditorium.
*A mandatory graduation practice will be on the morning of May 18th. You must be at school on this morning.
*The Hayes Chiropractic Scholarship Application is now available from Coach Reed’s shelf. Applications must be received in the Hayes Chiropractic by April 17th.
*If your parents are a member of McCurtain County Farm Bureau, their scholarship application is due on April 13th. These are available from Coach Reed’s shelf or a Farm Bureau office.
*If you are interested in attending Paris Junior College and have a 25 or higher on the ACT, see Mrs. Bible Presidential Scholarship Application. The deadline is March 19th.
*Choctaw Nation will be sponsoring a Career Expo for all juniors and seniors (you to not have to be Choctaw) in McAlester on April 4th. Feel free to use one of your college days to attend this program. You can get more information on the Choctaw Nation website.
*Carl Albert State College is having athletic try-outs on the following dates: Men’s Basketball April 17th 1:30, Women’s Basketball April 19th 2:30, Baseball May 22nd 10:30, Softball May 22, 10:30, Cheerleading May 12th 8:00am.
*The Kiwanis Club Scholarship Application is now available from Coach Reed’s shelf. Applications must be turned in to Mrs. Bible by April 13th.
*The Broken Bow Fire Fighter Association Scholarship Application must be received at the Fire Department by April 8. Applications are available from Coach Reed’s shelf.
*The Bob Burke Scholarship Application for an Outstanding Graduate Who Intends to Pursue a Career in Law is now available from Mrs. Bible or Coach Reed’s shelf. Only students from Broken Bow High School can apply for this scholarship. The scholarship amount is $1,000, and applications must be turned in to Mrs. Bible by April 13th.
*The Bob Burke Scholarship Application for an Outstanding Student in Drama, Speech, and Journalism is now available from Mrs. Bible or Coach Reed’s shelf. Only students from Broken Bow High School can apply for this scholarship. The scholarship amount is $1,000, and applications must be turned in to Mrs. Bible by April 13th.
*If you are planning to major in an area related to the lumber, carpentry, business, agriculture, or mechanical technology, see Mrs. Bible or Coach Reed’s shelf for the W.C. Slater Scholarship. Only students from Broken Bow High School can apply for this scholarship. The scholarship amount is $1,000, and the deadline to apply is April 13th. Applications should be submitted to Mrs. Bible.
*If you are planning to major in Elementary Education or Family and Consumer Science Education, see Mrs. Bible or Coach Reed’s shelf for the Dorothy Branstine Slater Scholarship. Only students from Broken Bow High School can apply for this scholarship. The scholarship amount is $1,000, and the deadline to apply is April 13th. Applications should be submitted to Mrs. Bible.
*The Quarterback Club Scholarship Applications for senior football players are now available from Coach Reed’s shelf. Applications must be turned in to Mrs. Bible by April 4th.
*OU is offering Summer Academies. You can check these out at http://youth.ou.edu/.
*The Broken Bow Education Foundation Scholarship Application is now available from Mrs. Bible or Coach Reed’s scholarship shelf. This scholarship can be used for any college/technical school. The application should be turned in to Mrs. Bible by April 13th.
*If you have an incomplete file with Oklahoma’s Promise (OHLAP), you must complete it before graduation, or you will not receive funding.
*If you want to be considered for the Masonic Lodge Scholarship, send a cover letter explaining who you are and why you want to be considered for the scholarship along with a 1-2 page resume containing your honors, activities, community service, etc., to: Broken Bow Masonic Lodge

*If you belong to a tribe other than Choctaw, contact that tribe for possible scholarships. See Mrs. Bible if you need help.
*If you are planning to attend Bacone and major in Criminal Justice, Art, Journalism, or Education, see Mrs. Bible on how to get 100% of your tuition waived. If you are planning to attend Bacone and have a CDIB, see Mrs. Bible on how to get all of your tuition waived and your housing waved.
*Concurrent students: remember to see Mrs. Bible if you decide to drop your college class during the semester. You will be enrolled in high school classes to complete your schedule. If your college class is built in your high school schedule and you don’t complete it, you will receive an “F”.
*Mrs. Holmes will get you copies of your transcript. If you have told her which college you are attending, she will automatically send your final transcript after you graduate.
* If you receive a fee waiver for the ACT test, you may be able to have your college enrollment fee waived. See Mrs. Bible when you get ready to enroll to see if you are eligible.
*Remember that in order to receive OHLAP funding, you must have a 2.5 overall GPA and a 2.5 GPA in you core classes. See Mrs. Bible to determine your exact core GPA.
*If you are a Choctaw student who is interested in a career that requires a certification (usually a two-year degree), please contact Gena Fowler at gfowler@choctawnation.com or 580-236-1019 for funding options. You can also receive monetary awards for taking the Work Keys assessments.
*Don’t forget; seniors get two days to visit college campuses this year. When you return, just bring in documentation from the college. The recruitment office usually has a form letter that they will give you.
*You can access the Learning Express ACT practice online at www.oklibrary.net. (This is the public library’s website.) This site has ASVAB practice as well. It is from this site that you can also receive free online tutoring each day from 2pm to 9pm. These services are completely free.
*Tutoring is on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday until 4:10 in Mrs. Compton’s room.
*Please notify Mrs. Bible of scholarships that you are receiving as you learn of them.
*OU also is offering Saturday ACT prep courses throughout the year. The cost is $90. To register, go to http://youth.ou.edu or see Mrs. Bible.
*For information on the Ayn Rand essay contest, go to www.aynrand.org/contests. The top prize is $10,000, and the deadline is April 26, 2012.
*ACT is now allowing students who receive free or reduced lunches to receive two fee waivers. This means you can take the ACT test two times for free. You can also register online using the fee waivers. Please see Mrs. Bible for your fee waiver. Do not wait until the deadline.
*If you have a CDIB card, Johnson O’Malley will reimburse the cost of the ACT test. Please bring proof of payment to Mrs. Bible or Mrs. Billy.
*If you are interested in taking the SAT, go to www.collegeboard.com to register.
*If you are expecting to get assistance through an American Indian tribe, make sure you have a C.D.I.B. card and a tribal membership card.
*If you have a physical, mental, or visual disability that keeps you from working, please contact Mrs. Bible for the initial paperwork for Vocational Rehabilitation.
