Freshman/Sophomore MARCH/APRIL Counselor’s Bulletin
If you would like to enroll in summer driver’s education, registration can be made beginning March 26 in the high school office. You will be placed on the roster when the $100 payment is made. Please remember that the summer program is first-come, first-serve and enrollment will remain open until all places have been filled.
MAY 2, 2012, IS THE LAST OPPORTUNITY TO TAKE THE READING PROFICIENCY TEST. Registration forms are due in the office on Tuesday, May 1, 2012. The test will begin at 3:15 p.m. in the IETV room. Remember: The driver’s education office requires a letter from our high school office stating you have passed the reading proficiency test and are attending school regularly. Please plan to stop by the high school office to pick up this letter a few days before you go to the driver’s education office.
Choctaw Nation Upward Bound and SOSU Upward Bound have a few openings for new members. If you are interested, see Mrs. Neal asap for the application.
Are you interested in management science and information systems? If so, you could attend the 4th Annual Information Systems Technology Exploration (ISyTE) Academy for High School Students on June 10-15, 2012 at Oklahoma State University. See Mrs. Neal for an application or apply online at www.cepd.okstate.edu\ISyTE. Applications need to be post-marked by March 30, 2012.
The next ACT test date is April 14, 2012. The regular registration deadline for this test date is March 9, 2012. You may register for this test date until the late registration deadline of March 23, but you must pay the late fee of $21.00.
Are you interested in summer employment? Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma Workforce Investment Act (WIA) summer youth applications are available in the high school office. Application deadline is April 16, 2012.
2012 Young Native Writers Essay Contest is open to Native American high school students currently enrolled in grades 9 – 12. Five winners will be awarded an all-expense-paid trip to Washington, D.C. Each winner also receives a $2,500 college scholarship. The submission deadline is April 30, 2012. Visit www.nativewriters.hklaw.com to learn more.
The ACT test will be given on June 9, 2012. The regular registration deadline for this test date is May 4, 2012.
If you are planning to take concurrent classes as a junior, you should take the ACT test and score a 19 in the subject area for the class you want to take. You also need to have a 21 composite score or a 3.5 GPA.

Tutoring is offered in Mrs. Compton’s room each Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 3:10 – 4:10. This is a free service provided to all students.

Attention 9th graders: NCAA initial-eligibility standards for NCAA Division I college-bound student-athletes are changing for those entering college on or after August 1, 2015. For more information, visit www.eligibilitycenter.org.

You may be eligible to earn FREE tuition to an Oklahoma college or university! Sophomores, be sure to have your Oklahoma’s Promise applications postmarked by July 2, 2012. You may apply online at www.okpromise.org. or pick up an application from Mrs. Neal. Please note: The 2010or 2011 tax returns may be used from January 1 – April 15. However, if Oklahoma’s Promise receives your application after April 15, you MUST use the 2011 tax return. **For those who apply online, the correspondence from OKPromise will be sent to the email address on the application.
“Beginning with the high school graduating class of 2012, all OKPromise high school graduates will be subject to a second family income check when the student begins college. The income of the student’s parents cannot exceed $100,000 at the time the student begins college and income will be verified through filing the FAFSA. The income that will be counted toward the $100,000 limit second income check is “federal adjusted gross income.” The income limit when the student initially applies remains “taxable and nontaxable” income. The Oklahoma State Regents for Higher Education 2012 Summer Academies:
