100 Days of School
Thursday, Feb. 2nd, was the 100th Day of School. The students came to school with posters with 100 items or they attached 100 items to their clothing. They made hats, glasses and decorated the halls with 100 items. The teachers planned activities that all had to do with the 100th Day of School. The teachers in several grades planned different activities and then they rotated their classes so that everyone could participate in all of the activities. Students had fun dressing in many different ways. One girl had 100 ribbons in her hair, one boy had 100 beads on a string and then attached it to his hair, while others put 100 pennies on their shirt. The students were so excited about the 100th Day. The first grade classes have a balloon launch every year for this fun day. They write notes that include their name and the school’s address. They laminate the notes and attach them to the string on the balloons. They filled over 100 pink balloons this year. The entire first grade took their balloons outside and counted down from ten and released the balloons all at the same time. It was quite a sight to see them float away in the bright blue sky. If anyone finds a balloon they send a card back to the school. The students have a large map and they pinpoint where each balloon is found. Some classes brought in 100 items placed in a zip lock bag. The students could see, feel and weigh the different items. One wonderful parent brought in cup cakes that were all put together and made the number 100 out of the cup cakes. It looked as good as it tasted. The 100th Day was a fun day for the students and they learned and practiced many different skills while having fun.
