IT'S A CRITICAL TIME

It’s a Critical Time
Winter will be ending soon and the excitement of spring will arrive. The students will start to get Spring Fever and there will be many fun learning activities for the children. This is a critical time for the students. There are many new skills that are being taught and the teachers are busy reviewing all of the previous skills. Many students at this age begin to mature during this second semester and many of them will understand the skills being taught and can apply them. Parents and Teachers will need to work together to help students manage their time as spring comes. It is so easy to get caught up in all of the springtime activities that school isn’t quite as important as it should be. It is important that students are at school every day and here on time so they do not miss instruction and practice time. Parents can help by just making sure your student gets enough rest and that your student is here at school on time. The following are a few ways parents can help support their student:
1. Spend a few minutes every evening looking over your children’s handouts, notes and work that your student brings home.
2. Contact your student’s teacher or the office if you have any questions about notes or work that is brought home.
3. Make sure teachers know you appreciate their efforts.
4. Set aside 15 minutes every evening for your child to read, go over their spelling words, or do a few math problems.
5. Select school functions and work over other outside activities.
6. Attend Parent/Teacher Conferences and really listen to teachers. Working together with a teacher is critical.
The next Parent/Teacher Conference is Thursday, March 4th, from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. If you cannot attend please call and talk to your child’s teacher to get an update. Encourage your children to do well in school. Ask them about how their day was at school and provide those encouraging comments such as: We are so proud of you! It is worth remembering what Jackson Brown Jr. said, “Life doesn’t require that we be the best, only that we try our best.” Help your children to try their best at everything they do.
