SOUTHEAST REGIONAL COMPETITIVE EVENTS

On Tuesday, February 2nd, Carissa Fogg and Tyler Tomlinson competed in the Family, Career and Community Leaders of America Southeast Regional Competitive Events in Ada. These students are members of the Broken Bow High School FCCLA Chapter. The chapter is advised by Amy Allen and Donna Lindly.

Carissa and Tyler won 1st place in the Illustrated Talk competitive event and will advance to the state level of competition. They planned a project, completed it and then presented their program to various groups.  Their project, “Take Charge,” is about helping families be prepared for emergencies and disasters.  They teach elementary students how to create a family preparedness kit and the items that are important to include.

“I believe it is important for families in our area to be prepared for ice storms, tornadoes or other natural disasters.  Our project helps people know what items and documents are important to keep close during an emergency,” says Carissa Fogg.

Tyler Tomlinson says, “Students and families are very interested in preparing because of devastating earthquake in Haiti and the recent ice storms in Oklahoma.  Our project came along at a very important time.”

Carissa Fogg, is the daughter of Jeremy and Tammy Fogg.  Tyler Tomlinson is the son of Shannon and Kim Tomlinson.  They are both freshman at Broken Bow High School and first year members of FCCLA.

Family, Career and Community Leaders of America STAR Events (Students Taking Action with Recognition) are competitive events in which members are recognized for proficiency and achievement in chapter and individual projects, leadership skills, and occupational preparation. STAR Events offer individual skill development and application of learning through cooperative, individualized and competitive activities.
