Hello Broken Bow and any visitors who are here with us.   It is hard to believe we are days away from beginning the second half of the 2012 school year.  Welcome back to the New Year!

As I stated at the start of the year back in August, all staff and personnel are working together to focus on the mission of making sure our students receive the best education possible. Our students and staff made the first semester an enjoyable and successful one both in the classrooms and extra-curricular events.  This was possible due to the outpouring support we received from our parents and community.

Additionally, the beginning of our year brought new challenges for us all with the promise of more just around the corner.  We continue to adjust daily to the changes being passed down to us from those making decisions at the Oklahoma State Department of Education.  These changes will affect all Oklahoma teachers and students.    A new teacher evaluation system is being put in place and accountability for student academic performance is at an all time high.   This adds additional responsibilities for our staff and holds our students to an even higher level of achievement in order to graduate with a high school diploma.

As I write this article we have begun the final phase of our last school bond project….a new dressing room facility for all of our student athletes.  Once again we have received generous help from our community.  A special thank you goes to Mr. Jim Freeny and his crew at the County Commissioner’s office as well as Mrs. Vicky Pieratt and the City of Broken Bow for helping us with the initial dirt work.  Their generosity of time and equipment saved us literally thousands of dollars.

Another exciting development will be the addition of lights at our softball and track complex.  A group of tireless parents wrote letters and sought the help from others to make this possible at no expense to our district.  Thank you to Western Farmers Electric Cooperative, Choctaw Electric and McFarland Cascade for their contributions.
Other upcoming projects we will be addressing will be the addition and improvement of handicapped accessibility at our facilities.   We are seeing an increasing number of patrons who come to our extra-curricular events but are unable to watch our students participate because of limited access.

Broken Bow Schools continue to do great things.  We must all keep working together to prepare our students for bright futures.  We do make a difference every day!

Sincerely,

Carla Ellisor
