If you are a minority student
who receives free or reduced lunch, please work
on getting your G.P.A. up to 3.3 on a 4.0 scale so that you will be eligible
for the Gates Millennium Scholarship next year.
To see
how much federal student aid you may be eligible for, go to Http://www.
fafsa4caster.ed.gov/ for a free estimate. you will not fill out the FAFSA
until next year.
If you are an OHLAP student,
your GPA must be a 2.5 or above in order to receive OHLAP money. You must
also have a 2.5 in your core classes. if you are unsure of your GPA, please
come in and visit with me. You can find more information on OHLAP at
www.okpromise.org.
ACT is now allowing students
who receive free or reduced lunches to receive two fee waivers. This
means you can take the ACT test two times for free. You can also register
online using the fee waivers. Please see Mrs. Bible for your fee waiver. Do
not wait until the deadline.
If you have a CDIB card,
Johnson O'Malley will reimburse the cost of the ACT test. Please bring proof
of payment to Mrs. Bible or Mrs. Billy.
Concurrent classes are enrolled in each semester. If you want to take classes next semester, see Mrs. Bible in December. The qualifications are:
Juniors: 21 composite ACT or
3.5 GPA. A sub score of 19 is also required in the content area. You will
have to pay for these classes; your tuition will not be waived until senior
year.

If you are a concurrent
student who decides to drop a class, notify Mrs. Bible A.S.A.P. If you
drop a class without making arrangements, you are no longer a full time
student. This can be a nightmare for you in terms of insurance, etc.
Remember, you have two
college days this year to use as you see fit. You can use these to
tour the campus, take a residual ACT, etc. Make sure to bring in
verification to Mrs. McGee in the office to have the absence marked
"excused."
If you are a minority

online to www.gmsp.org or see Mrs. Bible
for the gates Millennium Scholarship. This is Bill Gates' scholarship.
If you meet the requirements, you may be eligible for full tuition, fees
books, room, board, and living expenses through graduate level programs.
This is by far one of the best scholarships I have ever seen.

parents now about income tax returns. If they usually file for an

application will probably not be available until December. You can

The JFK Profile in Courage Essay Contest is now open. You can win up to $5,000. The website is www.jfklibrary.org and the deadline is January 10.
For information on the Zarrow scholarship, go to www.zarrow.com. You can register between April 15 and May 15, 2009. You must meet certain income requirements to qualify.
OU offers campus tours at 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. Monday through Friday and at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday. Call 405-325-2151 or visit go2.ou.edu to sign up. You can also apply at this site. It is not too early to apply.

The Savannah College of Art and Design is now taking applications for admission and scholarships. The website is www.scad.edu.
If you are expecting to get assistance through an American Indian tribe, make sure you have a C.D.I.B. card and a tribal membership card.
Mark you calendars for March 31, 2009, if you have a Choctaw C.D.I.B. The 2nd Annual Career Expo will be held in McAlester. Jason White is the guest speaker.
If you are near an Al’s Formal Wear anytime this year,
pick up a scholarship application. They give two $2,500 scholarships, and
the deadline isn’t until
June 10, 2009.
The Naval ROTC Scholarship provides a four-year scholarship covering full tuition, books, fees, uniforms and monthly stipend to attend a four-year university. After college, the student enters the Navy as a commissioned officer. Talk to the Navy recruiter or email raymond.gomez1@navy.mil for more information. You can also check out the website at www.nrotc.navy.mil. There are minimum ACT/GPA requirements.
For more information on the Army ROTC scholarship, go to www.armyrotc.com. The application deadline is January 10th. Mrs. Bible has more information on the OU program if you are interested. There are minimum ACT/GPA requirements.
Information on the Air Force ROTC program can be found at www.afrotc.com. You must have a 24 on the ACT to qualify.

The Sam Noble Scholarships for students majoring in agriculture or technology are now available. See Mrs. Bible or go online to www.noble.org to get the application. The deadline for this scholarship; if you are eligible, contact them for an application NOW!
If you are interested in majoring in engineering at OSU, OU, TU, Oklahoma Christian University, or ORU, go to www.ospe.org, click on the OEF button then click the scholarships link under Activities for the Oklahoma Engineering Foundation Scholarship application.

Don't forget; seniors get two days to visit college campuses this year. When you return, just bring in documentation from the college. The recruitment office usually has a form letter that they will give you.

OSU is introducing an early admission program for students pursuing a career in veterinary medicine. If you have an ACT score of 27 or higher, see Mrs. Bible for more details.
